About

Hello.

Reaching out for therapy can feel vulnerable, and it’s not always easy. You might not be sure what you need or where to begin, and that’s okay. If you’re reading this, you’ve already done something brave by showing up for yourself. That’s a real beginning, and it deserves to be recognised.

I’m Anna, a person-centred therapist and founder of Ascend Therapy. I offer one-to-one counselling for adults in a welcoming, supportive and non-judgemental environment. Whether you prefer to meet in person, online or via telephone, I offer flexible options to support what feels most comfortable

Central to my practice is a deep belief in the healing power of human connection. I see therapy as a place where you can come just as you are, without judgement or pressure. My values of authenticity, autonomy and compassion help me offer a space where you feel genuinely heard, respected and supported. I welcome and celebrate difference and individuality, aiming to provide a nurturing, affirming space for people of all identities and life journeys.

The therapy I offer is open ended, and can be either short or long term depending on your needs.

My approach.

My approach is grounded in an experiential person-centred philosophy. This means I offer an environment where you can explore your experiences at your own pace, with empathy, authenticity and a deep respect for your autonomy. I hold space for how experiences are felt and processed in the present moment, supporting you to connect with your inner knowing.

I draw from existential perspectives, inviting reflection around some of life’s deeper questions and meanings, particularly during times of transition, loss or uncertainty. I am also deeply passionate about integrating creative elements into the therapeutic process when it feels right. This may involve using expressive tools to support different ways of exploring and processing experiences beyond words.

Experience.

I hold both Foundation Degree (FdSc) and a First Class Honours Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Person-Centred Counselling, as well as being a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).

My experience includes working as a volunteer bereavement counsellor at St Wilfrid’s Hospice in Eastbourne, supporting individuals navigating grief and loss, as well as the diverse experiences that unfold alongside them. I have a particular interest in how grief is experienced by neurodivergent individuals, recognising the unique ways it can be processed and expressed. I have also worked as a volunteer for the SHOUT text service, offering urgent mental health and crisis support.

I am also Trauma-Informed trained, enabling me to approach clients with sensitivity and awareness of the impact of distressing or challenging life experiences. In addition to my core training, I have recently completed training in Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), a short-term, goal-oriented approach that draws on clients’ strengths to support positive change.

I regularly engage in continuing professional development, with recent areas of focus including neuroplasticity and creativity, somatic and inner child work, as well as exploring themes of sexual identity and expression.

My work is also informed by my own lived experience as an autistic therapist and as someone who is a part of the LGBTQ+ community. These aspects of my identity deepen my appreciation for the diversity of human experience and the many ways people relate to themselves and others. I work in a neuro-affirming way, creating a therapeutic space that is inclusive and respectful of each person’s unique sense of self.

I am fully insured and hold an enhanced DBS check.
